What food holds significance to me?

Hello! Welcome to my first ever post. To introduce myself, my name is Yemille but I tend to go by Yem for short. I am a second year student majoring in Pre Law while also minoring in Business Administration at the University of Arizona. In my free time, I love to work on my art and spend time having my nose in a book while also putting my pen to work.

So then, What is a food that means a lot to me and why does it hold this significance?

To start off, growing up in a hispanic family and living in a border town has opened up a lot of windows for me when it comes to food. Being exposed from such a young age really opened my eyes with —honestly? How much better Mexican dishes are rather than American food is. There just seems to be so much flavor when it comes to my own specific culture. Could I be biased? Perhaps.

With that being said, I would have to say any Mexican type of food holds a great significance to me. Although, if I have to be specific, I would have to pick tacos de carne asada because it reminds me of my roots — I am Mexican American, and grew up in a border town near Mexico as I mentioned before. I consider it a staple food. I’ve noticed it can’t really be replicated as well anywhere that isn’t near Mexico or in Mexico.

What I am hoping to get out of this food journal is to become closer to my culture, while also trying out new foods and explore flavors outside my comfort zone.
