Sushi Love Story
I’ve never been a fan of sushi. Until now, that is.
My earliest memory of seeing sushi was on the media — when I first watched Rugrats in Paris at a young age with my family. I didn’t think much of it, other than the fact that I found it hilarious that Stu Pickles couldn’t use his chopsticks to eat his food. Other than that, I remember asking my mom what sushi was. Her answer was a bit underwhelming: she’s never tried it before, and doesn’t plan to, since it’s all raw fish. That was the end of it, I never felt tempted to try it.
As the years went by, I found that everyone around me was always boasting about sushi and how good it was. I even remember that a few shows on Nickelodeon talked about sushi and how much they loved it. My curiosity was piqued, but there weren’t any sushi places near me. That is, until a few years later a sushi shop opened up in my town. But, It wasn’t until a year ago that my friends wanted to go grab some sushi. I’m a notorious picky eater, but they assured me that I was going to like it. Just to be on the safe side, they told me to get the California roll. It was okay, but I really didn’t like it.
So I decided sushi just wasn’t for me. Until a week ago, my roommate and I got some after I saw her get a tempura roll the previous week. When I finally tried it — I fell in love with it and it’s really opened my eyes to it. Now I want to try as much as possible.
